Events

Teachers, librarians and festival organisers!

Would you like to book me for an author event?

My background

I have worked as a classroom teacher in London and Bradford, as a drama teacher in the USA and as a teacher of English to children and adults in Colombia. For the last twenty years I have been writing for children and adults and am a regular author for Oxford University Press as well as being published by Hachette (Orchard) and Franklin Watts.

My author talk based on the Cordelia Codd series

Cordelia Codd loves films, especially the costumes. By introducing this aspect of her character and using a variety of images, games and exercises, I explore ways in which children can build characters for their own creative writing. I also send follow-up exercises for teachers to use in the classroom, if requested.

These one hour sessions are fun and stimulating for adults and children as well as making appropriate curriculum links with literacy across Key Stage 2. They are best suited to years 5/6. There will be time for children to ask questions about my life and work as an author.

Author event for years 3 and 4

I have written several titles for Oxford University Press and Franklin Watts as part of their fantastically successful structured reading series. These titles can be seen in the More Books and Classic Stories Retold sections. If you would like me to visit to read and discuss these stories with children, as well as chatting about my life and work as an author, please contact me through the Get in Touch section to talk about the sort of event you would like.
